Entrepreneurship
There are some misconceptions about being an entrepreneur and a servant of God, or a Gospel minister and going into entrepreneurship/ business. This misunderstanding is making some youth relaxed, others too confuse as to whether to quit business and go into ministry because he/she is called, or to forsake the calling and focus on business because thus what bring food to the house. In any case both side has some factual point, which can affect decision either negative or positive way. Now let go into scriptures and see what the Bible says and analyze some experiences. We have all heard of entrepreneurship and we know what it is,
But this clarify the misconceptions about doing both business and Ministry. We will take our time and dive into it more, starting with, is the definition of entrepreneurship.
What comes to mind when you hear Entrepreneurship?
Many people define entrepreneurship in different ways base on their experience and context. To me I understand it and define it as follows:
“Entrepreneurship is doing want you love doing and earning worth from it.” This where you focus on what you are passionate about, that you love doing over and over again with feeling it painful side. You mostly meet people who want to be an entrepreneur but don’t know what ER to start from, you ask them to start with what they are good at doing and that being of importance to society or those area them. Then they will ask you back what correlation thus that have to help others.
For example I asked a friend what do you love doing most often?
“I love watching football” , then I asked are the one who love watching football in your area, and house/ hostel,
I asked how do then watch it?
“I go to distance (betway or any available place showing it) to watch.
Finally, do you have a Television or Screen device?
“Yes l have a flat Screen”.
So why don’t you get a decoder, set it in a spacious place at your house or area to show those leagues anytime they playing, making sure it will be accessible to other users or consumers who can be tasked to pay something before watching. He Was like oooo ok that I will be cool. You see, this was an opportunity lying right in front of him, yet didn’t realize it. In doing so He was saving himself the time to go distance to watch football, earn something from what he loves watching and saving others from stress of roaming to watch matches. This has now become a business.
Kindly note that it has become a small business, for the seek of our second define yet to be analyzed. We will look at the define of business in our next article.
Now let take a look at another definition, this is the expansion of the first one, but I mostly relate it to large scale businesses or companies.
“Entrepreneurship is taking risk in doing what you are passionate about, on purpose and making incomes form such.”
The added key here is purpose, the purpose here is doing something you don’t like, but for the benefit of others. It is the goal of your passion. It is the focus on the beneficial in relation to your passion.
To build a large scale business you need to have a goal, this will serve as a yardstick for measuring or evaluating your performance and outcome. The goal might not necessarily be in your favor but for the seek for the end users you need to abide.
In case the case of the watching live football match, now He needs to set a goal for his business, plan on his targets, research on other programs which is of need to others and include.
Researching might not be his like, neither the inclusion of other programs might be his choice, but for the seek of the consumers, he needs to do all this to be successful in that business hence entrepreneur.
Don’t forget that, An entrepreneur is a person who takes risk in doing business. An entrepreneur is someone who has a role of an industrialist and forms an organization for the commercial use. He is a change agent. So thus a realistic definition of entrepreneurship.
So as Christians let focus our passion on purpose and turn it into a venture, to employ others and save many from poverty.
